Ava DuVernay announces Meg, other casting for A WRINKLE IN TIME movie

I cannot wait for director Ava DuVernay’s Disney adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time. This classic YA novel tells the story of Meg Murry and her younger brother Charles Wallace as they search for their missing father across space and time. And I’m even more excited for the A Wrinkle in Time movie with the casting of Meg Murry.

DuVernay recently announced that Meg Murry will be played by Storm Reid. Reid’s most notable film role so far has been a short role in “Twelve Years A Slave,” a film which skyrocketed the career of the incomparable Lupita Nyong’o.

Though DuVernay’s is not the first movie adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time – it was adapted as a TV movie back in 2003 – it will be the first adaptation produced by a major company.

Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kalig also joined the cast.  Kalig, the star of “The Office” and “The Mindy Project” and the author of Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, will play Mrs. Who. Witherspoon, a director and actress who will star in the upcoming TV show “Big Little Lies” (though perhaps known best for her role as Elle Woods), will play Mrs. Whatsit. Oprah Winfrey is, of course, Oprah Winfrey; currently starring in the TV shows “Queen Sugar” and “Greenleaf,” Winfrey will play Mrs. Which.

Jennifer Lee, writer and co-director of Disney’s animated hit “Frozen,” will write the screenplay along with Chris Buck. A Wrinkle in Time, first published in 1962, is available now.
