Kat McNamara to play Clary Fray in ABC Family’s SHADOWHUNTERS

Katherine McNamara will be playing Clary Fray in ABC Family’s Shadowhunters, a new TV adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series.

Shadowhunters will start at the beginning of the first book in Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series. After her mother is kidnapped, Clary Fray discovers the existence of a group of half-angel fighters. Called the Shadowhunters, they may hold the key to the mysteries unfolding around her – and so Clary decides to join them.

McNamara will be dying her hair red for the part.

Though no official leak surfaced during the audition process, McNamara was a fan favorite and many expected her to get the part. (Several Shadowhunter fansites admitted to having saved drafts of Tweets in preparation of the announcement.)

Cassandra Clare took to Twitter to share her support of McNamara’s casting decision; the author has liked every single casting decision made so far, even taking to her social media sites to refute fans who didn’t like the Hispanic casting of characters Simon and Isabelle.

McNamara will also be playing Sonya in the upcoming adaptation of James Dashner’s The Scorch Trials.
