Paul Haggis is set to write and direct the film adaptation of Paolo Bacigalupi’s bestselling sci-fi novel Ship Breaker.
Ship Breaker follows Nailer, a teenage boy, who scavenges for copper wiring just to make a living in a world wrecked by climate change. When he discovers an exquisite clipper ship beached during a recent hurricane, Nailer faces the most important decision of his life: Strip the ship for all it’s worth or rescue its lone survivor, a beautiful and wealthy girl who could lead him to a better life.
Ship Breaker is the first of three planned films, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The feature is being produced by Philip Lee and Markus Barmettler’s company Far East.
Ship Breaker is available now.
